England is Mine

One of the first conversations Mark and Baldwin ever had was about their shared love for the music of The Smiths. That Mark grew up on the very same streets as Morrissey meant the seeds of a feature film idea was born. Rather than pursue the traditional biopic form Mark focussed on the birth of Morrissey from struggling loner and dreamer to the fateful day when he meets Johnny Marr.

Not in the least bit concerned with crowd-pleasing, England is Mine is an admirably focused and unapologetic biopic of Steven Patrick before he became Morrissey. Shot entirely on location in Stretford, Manchester over five weeks the film stars the then relatively unknown Jack Lowden (Dunkirk) and Jodie Comer (Killing Eve).

Released in 2017 England is Mine has seen wide cinematic releases in all international territories. No mean feat for a small independent British film.
